Be Careful what you wish for

It was a warm evening after a hot day and even though it was a rainy time of year there was no rain in the forecast. I was on my way to Grand Forks, North Dakota. My husband and I had had a little tiff before I left so I was starting my 10 hour drive in a bit of a snit. Usually this would not be a problem because long drives usually ease my mind and soothe my emotions a bit. It was about 3 hours in and I found myself wishing that I had seen more wildlife they are part of the reason that road trips help my attitude (that and singing to the steering wheel). About 2 more hours down the road still thinking about my foul mood I decided that what I really needed was rain yessss! (rain always helps my emotions.) So, I wished for rain but then it dawned on me that when it rains most wildlife batten down the hatches and go some were that they can stay dry. So in my mind not only am I in a foul mood but the chances of getting the rain or the wildlife the two things that usually help my mood are slim to none.

Any one who knows me knows that I have no natural sence of direction and with out the help of the navigation app on my phone I would not be able to find my way out of my back yard. Well my navigation program gave me directions to turn onto a single lane highway that runs through marshy land. I thought it was a bit odd but not being able to find my way out of my backyard with out help I followed the directions I was given.

While on this highway the temperature drops and it suddenly starts to rain surprise (remember that rain I wished for?) Who knew a sudden temperature drop after a hot day on a road thru a marshy area during rain showers would equal cold frogs seeking warmth on a warm road during (and there is the wildlife I wished for). There were thousands of them they were everywhere great big leaping frogs that looked like they were a foot long with there big ole legs, medium sized hoppie frogs (yes I meant hoppie) and even little frogs squiggling across the road as if they didn’t yet know how to use there newly grown legs. Thank goodness it was the middle of the night and there was no on coming traffic. I was swerving all over the road left lane, right lane, shoulder other shoulder trying to avoid snuffing out the life of any of the wildlife that I had so wished for. Regretfully try as I might there was at least one casualty that I found evidence off on my car the next morning.

So, I lit a candle for the loss of the life of the frog and thanked him or her for showing me that some times wishes not only come true but come true quickly so be careful what you wish for.
